This rule is used to validate the following :

• Evaluated Mark Reference ID

To perform this validation, the following information is used:

• Evaluated Mark Course Code
• Evaluated Mark School Year
• Relationship Type (Course)
• Related Course
• Official Mark Course Code
• Mark Value

Credit cannot be awarded for a course evaluation where the student already has a passing official mark in an equivalent course.

To find course equivalencies for a course, find all Course Relationships for the course with a Relationship Type (Course) = REG. The course listed in the Related Course(s) are the equivalent courses.

A course evaluation is considered to be an evaluated mark where the evaluation method is one of:

• AAM (Evaluation Method)
• MUS (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-BC (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-MB (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-NB (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-NL (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-NS (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-NT (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-NU (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-OC (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-ON (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-PE (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-QC (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-SK (Evaluation Method)
• OUT-YT (Evaluation Method)
• PVT (Evaluation Method)
• SCS (Evaluation Method)
• WPC (Evaluation Method)
• EXCRED (Evaluation Method)

Equivalent Courses are identified by looking at Course Relationships for the evaluated course with a Relationship Type (Course) of Regular Equivalency(REG) that are in effect during the school year in which the evaluation is performed. The courses listed as the Related Courses are the equivalent courses.

A Passing Official Mark is one in the equivalent course with an Achievement Date that is before the Evaluation Date of the Evaluated Mark record.

• Effective Starting School Year: 2009/2010

Equivalent courses are explicitly defined in CIA and are direct relationships. No indirect equivalencies are to be considered; Course 4 would not be considered as an equivalent for Course 1 as defined below:

• Course 1 is equivalent to Course 2
• Course 1 is equivalent to Course 3
• Course 2 is equivalent to Course 4

When this validation rule is triggered, the following message is returned:

• {Evaluated Mark Course Code} {Course Short Description} means the course code and Course English Short Name of the course code for the evaluated mark record
• {Equivalent Course Code} {Course Short Description} means the course code and Course English Short Name of the course code for the equivalent course
