Comparing Official Marks

When the Official Mark Calculator is merging newly calculated official marks with existing official marks, they are compared to determine if and how the new mark differs from the existing mark.

The following information is used in this comparison:

Mark Ordinal

The Mark Ordinal is calculated to one of the following values (in order of best to worst):

  • Passing Non-Evaluation
  • Passing Evaluation
  • Failed Non-Evaluation
  • Withdrawn / Incomplete
  • Failed Evaluation
Credits Awarded A simple comparison of Credits Awarded
Normalized Mark Value A simple comparison of Normalized Mark Value
Mark Sub-Ordinal

The Mark Sub-Ordinal is calculated to one of the following values (in order of best to worst):

  • Blended Mark
  • Maturity
  • Full Exemption
  • Ledger Card
  • Evaluation
  • Unknown

For the complete record to match, the following information must be identical:

This information is compared and results in one of three outcomes:

Identical The entire record is completely the same.
Different
  • The Mark Ordinal of the calculated official mark is better than the existing official mark,
  • The Mark Ordinal is the same, the credits awarded are the same (or better on the calculated official mark) and the Normalized Mark Value is better on the calculated official mark, or
  • The Mark Ordinal is the same, the credits awarded are the same (or better on the calculated official mark), the Normalized Mark Values are the same, and the Mark Sub-Ordinal is better on the calculated official mark
  • The Mark Ordinal is the same, the credits awarded are the same (or better on the calculated official mark), the Normalized Mark Values are the same, and the Mark Sub-Ordinal is the same, but the calculated official mark and the existing official mark are different is some way.
Detriment
  • The Mark Ordinal of the existing official mark is better than the calculated official mark,
  • The Mark Ordinal is the same, but the credits awarded for the existing official mark are better than the calculated official mark,
  • The Mark Ordinal is the same, the credits awarded are the same (or better on the calculated official mark) and the Normalized Mark Value is better on the existing official mark, or
  • The Mark Ordinal is the same, the credits awarded are the same (or better on the calculated official mark), the Normalized Mark Values are the same, and the Mark Sub-Ordinal is better on the existing official mark
