A Primary ASN is the Alberta Student Number that should be used when referencing a particular student. The ASN that is originally assigned to a particular student record will initially be considered the student’s Primary ASN.

If the original ASN is later determined to be a duplicate ASN for a particular student, it will be linked to another student, and will then be considered a Secondary ASN.

In other situations, the ASN may be deactivated as an ASN that should no longer be used.
