Merging Official Marks

Once an official mark is calculated, the Official Mark Calculator merges the calculated Official Marks with the existing Official Marks for the student and determines if the newly calculated mark or the existing mark should remain as the student's final Official Mark.

The same logic is used when merging first pass and second pass official marks.

Merging Calculated Official Marks

The existing official mark will be used instead of the calculated official mark when:

  • An existing official mark for the course exists, but the course and the course(s) associated to the calculated selected marks are not considered one of the Identifying Related Courses, or
  • The newly calculated official mark is deemed to be a detriment to the student.

The calculated official mark is deemed to be a detriment when:

  • The course or the course associated to any of the calculated selected marks is one of the Identifying Related Courses, and
    • A comparison2) of the calculated official mark against the existing official mark is deemed to be a Detriment
    • The existing official mark has at least 1 selected mark,
    • The calculated official mark is not based on a GED Exam Mark, (or is based on a GED Exam Mark but for a previous GED Exam Mark Series),
    • The selected marks associated to the existing official mark have not been updated since the last calculation,
    • The selected marks associated to the existing official mark have not been impacted by a change in Maturity Date.
