Displaying Student Information involves using the following services:

Architectural Considerations

The following questions should be considered if your integrated solution will include the display of student information. These should be considered whether the information displayed is obtained via synchronization or if the information is retrieved on demand.

How will information disclosure restrictions be highlighted to users?

All screens within the solution that are used to view or update student information must clearly identify if a student has an information disclosure restrictions and the type disclosure restriction.

How will Independent Students be highlighted to users?

All screens within the solution that are used to view or update student information must clearly identify if a student is considered an independent student. This includes:

  • Independent Students under the age of 18 - These students will include an Information Disclosure Restriction indicating their independent student status.
  • Students over 18 - PASI will NOT contain an information disclosure restriction record indicating a student is 18 years of age or older. An integrated solution is required to calculate the age of the student at the time a student is being viewed by a user to determine if a student is deemed to be an independent student.

How will Secondary or Deactivated ASNs be highlighted to users?

Get Student (2019 Endpoint) and Get Student Personal Profile services return information that identifies if a student's ASN is Primary, Secondary, or Deactivated. All screens used to display student information must clearly identify if the ASN is Secondary or Deactivated. If a Secondary ASN, the associated Primary ASN must also be displayed.

What approach is used to determine if a student is associated to the user’s organization?

The student information available to a user is dependent upon their organizations associated to the student.

  • School authority level users can view student details for all students in all schools in their school authority.
  • A school user can only view student details for student in the user’s school.
  • PASI will return limited information if the user is not associated to the student.

The Get Student Personal Profile, Get Student Academic Profile, and Get Student Learning Profile services will provide student association information and depending on the student’s association to the calling user, only return student data the user is allowed to view.
