This rule is used to validate the following data in a name record:

Description

Names cannot contain words with a period in the middle of the word. A period in the middle of a word must be followed by a space or a hyphen. Name is made up of several Name Fields (First Name, Middle Name, Last Name and Suffix). A Name Field may consist of multiple Name Words separated from each other by a single space or hyphen. A Name Word may contain letters and apostrophes, must begin with a letter or apostrophe and may end with a period.

Effective Period

  • This validation rule is in effect for all school years.

Message

When this validation rule is triggered, the following message is returned:

Invalid {Name Descriptor} Name. {FieldListWithValues} Periods within a name must be followed by a space or hyphen.

{FieldName} = “First Name” / “Middle Name” / “Last Name” / “Suffix”
