This service is used to manage Student Name records in the PASI Core. This service can be used to:

• Add a new Student Name,
• Update an existing Student Name, or
• Delete an existing Student Name.

To submit changes to the student’s legal name, refer to the Submit Identification Information service.

The service can be accessed by systems with the Submit Student User role.

The following Student Name information is provided when using this service:

• Alberta Student Number*
• PASI Core Version*
• A Student Name* containing:
  • First Name*
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name*
  • Suffix
  • Reference ID*
  • Effective On
  • Source Change Code

In addition:

• Is Preferred can be specified to indicate that this name should be considered the Preferred Name for the Student.
• Delete Name can be specified to indicate that this name should be deleted.
• Source Change Code can be specified to indicate why the update was made and is only stored in the audit

The following rules are used to validate the information provided in the request:

• Rule 9002 - Invalid ASN
• Rule 9006 - Invalid Reference ID
• Rule 9011 - Secondary ASN
• Rule 9014 - PASI Core Out of Date
• Rule 9023 - Empty Update
• Rule 9049 - Student Association for Original Name
• Rule 9065 - Student Association or Upcoming Exam Registration or HSED Application
• Rule 11201 - Duplicate Student Name (Only on the IPASIService2017 endpoint)
• Rule 11203 - Period in Name
• Rule 11204 - Leading Space in Name
• Rule 11206 - Trailing Space in Name
• Rule 11207 - Repeated Spaces in Name
• Rule 11208 - Name starts with a Hyphen
• Rule 11215 - Cannot Delete Preferred Name
• Rule 11216 - Cannot Delete Original Name
• Rule 11219 - Name ends with a Hyphen
• Rule 11220 - Repeated Hyphens in Name
• Rule 11221 - Space Beside Hyphen in Name
• Rule 11222 - Repeated Apostrophes in Name
• Rule 11223 - Stand Alone Apostrophe in Name
• Rule 11224 - Name starts with a Period
• Rule 11227 - Current Identity Name Cannot Be Updated

Once the information is successfully validated, the information will be recorded within the PASI Core.

The PASI Core Version (Student Health Version) for the student will be updated when one of the following data elements is updated by using this service:

• First Name
• Middle Name
• Last Name
• Name Suffix

Note: If the update changes which name record is identified as the ‘preferred name’ then this will also update the health Version.

PASI will create/update the student’s Elections Alberta Trigger record if the submission changes:

• The name record identified as the Preferred Name of the student changes
• One of the following data elements of the student’s Current Identity Name or Preferred Name is updated:
  • First Name
  • Middle Name
  • Last Name
  • Name Suffix

When a student name is successfully created, updated, or deleted, a Student Status Processor Trigger is created to trigger recalculation of the Validation Status for the Student.

The usage of this service is audited using Service Auditing including the auditing of Caller Information.

Service updates are audited by creating a Student Audit Event with an Audit Subject of “SubmitStudentAlias (Audit Subject)” and the Audited Values containing all the attributes provided to the service. The “A” action is used if a new name record is added. A “U” action is used if the already existing name is updated.

A response to a Submit Name request identifies if the request was successfully applied. If not successful, the response identifies which validation rules failed.
