Submit Credential Requirement Exemption

This service is used to manage Student Credential Requirement Exemptions in PASI. Student Credential Requirement Exemptions identify that a student has been or is being made exempt from satisfying a credential requirement through a typical achievement (i.e. completion of required course work).

A user will use this service to:

  1. Submit a Student Credential Requirement Exemption with a status of “Requested” (Request that a student be exempted from having to achieve a credential requirement)
  2. Update the status of a Student Credential Requirement Exemption from “Requested” to “Approved”, “Denied” or “Pending”(Approve/Deny/Pend an existing request for an exemption)
  3. Update the status of a Student Credential Requirement Exemption from “Approved” to “Denied” or “Pending” (Deny/Pend a previously approved exemption)
  4. Update the exemption details of a Student Credential Requirement Exemption
  5. Remove (delete) a Student Credential Requirement Exemption

Security

The service can be accessed by systems with the Submit Transcript User role.

Request Validations

Validating for Credential Requirement Security Permissions

The validation rules on this service ensure that users have the correct permissions to submit or update exemptions that are accompanied by specific exemption reasons.

For example, to achieve an Alberta High School Diploma a student must meet the CALM (Career and Life Management) requirement. Typically a student would meet this requirement by successfully completing the CALM course. However, a student may be exempted from having to complete the course for a valid reason (e.g. The student transferred from out of province during grade 12 year). In this case a school may submit a Student Credential Requirement Exemption with an Exemption Reason of Out Of Province Transfer - CALM against the CALM Credential Requirement. If and when the status of the Student Credential Requirement Exemption is set to “Approved”, the Credential Requirement will be “met”.

The rules also prevent a user from updating the reason associated to a Student Credential Requirement Exemption. For example, a user cannot change the the exemption reason from Out Of Province Transfer - CALM to Out Of Province Transfer - CALM . The exemption would have to be deleted and a new exemption with the correct reason created to replace it.

Note: The permission that allows a user to set the status of an exemption to “Approved” is the same permission that permits setting the status to “Denied” or “Pending”.

Service Functionality

After validating the information provided in the request, PASI will update the Exemption information for the Student Credential Requirement record and create a Transcript Trigger to reassess credential eligibility based on the updated information.
