This service is used to manage a Student Phone Number for a Student in the PASI Core. This service can be used to:

• Add a new Student Phone Number,
• Update an existing Student Phone Number, or
• Delete an existing Student Phone Number.

The service can be accessed by systems with the Submit Student User role.

The request identifies if a create, update, or delete should be performed for a provided Student Phone Number. A Student Phone Number contains:

• Reference ID (Student Phone Number)
• Phone Number Type
• Student Phone Number Details - Phone Number
• Student Phone Number Details - Extension
• Is Listable
• Effective Date
• Expiry Date
• PASI Core Version

In addition:

• ‘Is Preferred’ can be specified to indicate that this phone record should be considered the student’s Preferred Phone Number.
• ‘Expire Current’ can be specified to indicate that this phone record should be the only active record, and all other phone records should be expired one day prior to the Effective Date (Student Phone Number) specified.

Mobile Phone Backward Compatibility on 201507 End Point

• If the phone number exists in PASI, PASI will ignore the Phone Type value provided by the vendor.
• If the phone number does not exist then we will accept the values (i.e. Phone number, Phone type) that is provided the SIS vendors.
• Note: Schools are able to update the Phone Type value in PASIprep (if desired).

Phone Type Handling on 201602 End Point and Beyond

• Both ‘Home’ and ‘Mobile’ Phone Types are supported on the 201602 end point and beyond. Vendors on this end point will be able to consume the mobile phone type and will be able to provide this mobile phone type updates through SIS integration.
• Note: When the vendors that are currently on the 2015 EP moves to a later EP, they will be required to resynchronize their Student data to ensure they have the correct Phone Type value.

The following rules are used to validate the information provided in the request:

• Rule 9002 - Invalid ASN
• Rule 9006 - Invalid Reference ID
• Rule 9010 - Organization Not Associated to Student
• Rule 9011 - Secondary ASN
• Rule 9014 - PASI Core Out of Date
• Rule 11251 - Phone Numbers Starts with an Invalid Character
• Rule 11252 - Invalid Length for NANP Phone Number
• Rule 11253 - Invalid 2nd Character for International Phone Number
• Rule 11254 - Invalid Character in Phone Number
• Rule 11255 - Invalid Character in Extension
• Rule 11256 - Invalid Phone Number Expiry Date
• Rule 11257 - Cannot Delete the Preferred Phone Number
• Rule 11261 - Unreasonable Phone Number for effective date for date of birth
• Rule 60075 - Active Self Connection for Sending Message

Once the information is successfully validated, the information will be recorded within the PASI Core. When submitting phone number changes two situations needs to be considered:

1. The student’s phone number is incorrect and needs to be updated.
2. The student’s phone number has changed as a result of the student moving, or getting a new phone number.

In the first situation, submitting an update to an existing phone number will update the information on the phone number record. The changes to this information are deemed corrections to the information and will be recorded for audit purposes.

In the second situation, the current phone number is still accurate, but is no longer a phone number that should be used to contact the student. In this situation, a update to the current phone number should be submitted to ensure that the phone number is expired. The expiry date should be the last date that the phone number should be used to contact the student.

The student’s new phone number should be submitted, not as an update to an existing phone number, but as a new phone number for the student. The student phone number effective date for this new phone number should be the first date that the phone number can be used to contact the student.

The PASI Core Version (Student Health Version) for the student will be updated if the student is deemed to be an Independent Student and the submission changes:

• Which Student Phone Number is identified as the as the Preferred Phone Number, or
• One of the following attributes of the student's Preferred Phone Number:
  • Phone Number Type
  • Number of the Student Phone Number Details
  • Extension of the Student Phone Number Details
  • Expiry Date
  • Is Deleted

PASI will create/update the student’s Elections Alberta Trigger record if the submission changes:

• Which phone number is identified as the Preferred Phone Number, or
• If the Preferred Student Phone Number is updated.

When a Student Phone Number record is added, updated, or deleted, a Student Status Processor Trigger is created to trigger recalculation of the Validation Status for the Student.

A response to a Submit Phone Number request identifies if the request was successfully applied.

If not successful, the response identifies which validation rules failed.
