Earn a Credential

This high level business process outlines the process by which a Student earns and receives an Alberta Education Credential.

Primary Scenario - Credential Requirements Satified by Coursework

This scenario begins as a Student completes high school course work.

  1. The student completes coursework at an Alberta Accredited School.
  2. The school authority submits the school mark to Alberta Education.
    1. This mark can be submitted via:

      1. Direct integration using the following services:
      2. PASIprep using the following functionality:
  3. The PASI system calculates the student's Official Marks.
    1. This calculation is done by the Official Mark Calculator.

  4. The PASI system assessments the student's eligibility for Alberta Education credentials.
    1. This assessment is completed by the Credential Eligibility Calculator.

  5. The PASI system updates the student's Transcript Information including their Official Marks and Credential Eligibility.
    1. The results of the Official Mark Calculator and the Credential Eligibility Calculator are stored to the PASI database by the Transcript Processor.

  6. When the student meets all the requirements for a Credential, Student Records awards the student the credential.
    1. This can be done via PASIprep:
      1. For many students at once using the Award and Order Credentials in Bulk functionality,
      2. For just one student at a time using the Award and Order Credential functionality.

  7. The PASI system generates the credential to be sent to the student, and sends the credential to Service Alberta for printing.
    1. The credential is generated by the Credential Processing Agent.
    2. Once generated, the credential is sent to Service Alberta by the Service Alberta Delivery Agent.

  8. Service Alberts receives, prints, and mails the generated credential to the student.
  9. The student receives their credential in the mail.

This scenario ends after the student has received their credential.

Alternate Scenario 1 - Student Completes a Diploma Exam

This scenario begins by the student writing a diploma exam.

  1. The student completes a diploma exam at a school.
  2. Alberta Education scores the diploma exam and records the results in PASI.
    1. Diploma Exam marks are recorded in PASI via the MCSS (Marking Centre Scoring System) (Marking Centre Scoring System) via the Submit Diploma Exam Mark service.

This scenario continues with step 3 of the Primary Scenario.

Alternate Scenario 2 - Student Completes a GED Exam

This scenario begins by the student writing a General Educational Development (GED) exam.

  1. The student completes a GED exam.
  2. The GED organization scores the exam and submits the results to Alberta Education.
    1. GED Exam Marks are submitted to Alberta Education via a GED File.

  3. Alberta Education uses PASI to process and record the GED Exam Marks.
    1. GED Files are loaded into PASI via PASIprep by using the Load GED Exam Marks functionality.

This scenario continues with step 3 of the Primary Scenario.

Alternate Scenario 3 - Credential Requirements have not been Satisfied

This scenario begins after 5 of the Primary Scenario. As the student has not satisfied all the requirements for a credential, no further action is taken and the scenario ends.

Alternate Scenario 4 - Credential Reprint

This scenario begins after step 9 of the Primary Scenario. In this scenario, after receiving their credential, the student decides they need another copy of their credential.

  1. The student requests a copy of their credential. Students can request a copy of their credential themselves by Ordering a Credential Reprint using myPass functionality.
  2. The PASI system generates a copy of their credential which is sent to Service Alberta for printing.

This scenario continues with step 8 of the Primary Scenario.
